It is difficult to imagine when and where this rapid development might stop.

Animated films receive general recognition, while SFX, and thus animation, have become an indispensable part of almost any film production. We are now living in an era when animation technology flourishes. But over the past decade I observed the slow rebirth of animated film, which accelerated after the Polish Film Institute was established a few years ago. The old filmmakers had retired, but there were no new ones most had chosen to leave the country. This was probably the most difficult moment in the history of this particular branch of cinema. When I just started out, the animation industry in Poland was in very bad shape. This behaviour was part amateur and part forced upon me by the condition of filmmaking at the time. The new methods of supporting film production by the Polish Film Institute are aimed at improving the system that we have developed over the past five years.Įntered the world of film through the back door by financing my own animated shorts that were later well-received around the world. Our aim for 2010 is to co-finance primarily auteur films, but also period films and projects for children and young audiences. It brings me great satisfaction to know that the films we co-finance are getting better, and that Polish audiences are increasingly choosing to see them in cinemas. I am happy to see that the Polish Film Institute participates in such a large number of film productions. Audiences will have the opportunity to watch truly interesting film works that combine truthfulness with an original style, excellent craftsmanship, and most importantly, an intriguing storyline. We are proud to present the 2010 catalogue of Polish films. These young filmmakers try to find new cinematic ways of telling the stories of the world around them new ways of evaluating their own history and cultural heritage. Apart from the older generation of artists, surprising their audiences with original stories, there is today a generational group of young film directors that seek their own, personal language. True are the words of the president of the jury at the 34th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia: something fantastic is happening in Polish cinema.
